You are buying a beautiful very early edition of the two volume set of A History of New York, Third Edition. This was published in 1819 in Philadelphia under the name Diedrich Knickerbocker who was really Washington Irving. It is a very interesting book, it was actually written by Washington Irving as a satire of Thomas Jefferson. So Knickerbocker is a fake name. Irving even went as far as faking a hotel reservation in knickerbocker’s name and ran an ad in the paper saying he would publish the manuscript if the man didn’t pay his bill!
Average use wear and aging. Not perfect, but in good condition. I didn't see any writing in the text. Some evidence of moisture damage in the past. Books have tanning of pages and some foxing but in good condition for the age. Marbled backing and leather spine. Gilt edges. See photos enlarged for details as they are part of the description. Books measure approx. 5 x 7.8 x 0.8 each.
