Thomas Demand Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo
This exhibition catalog accompanied the first Thomas Demand exhibition held in a Japanese museum (Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo: May 19 - July 8, 2012). Based on photographs of events from newspapers and other sources, Demand creates three-dimensional paper models to recreate the scenes. His method, which involves destroying the subject after photographing it, leaving it to exist only in the photograph, is the central focus of this catalog, which introduces his work to date. It includes illustrations of all exhibited works, texts by Yuko Hasegawa, Alexander Kluge, and Keiichiro Hirano, and an interview with the artist by Yoko Tawada.
