Rare 1981-D Heavy DDR, Struck-Thru Grease Errors U.S. Washington Quarter
U.S. Mint
Denver
A Heavy Doubled Die Reverse (DDR). The doubling is visible in the motto, 'STATES OF AMERICA,' and 'QUARTER DOLLAR,' with distinct doubling on the serifs of the letters.
In addition to the DDR, this coin also features the following authentic anomalies:
Repunched Mint Mark (RPM): The 'D' mint mark shows a subtle shift from a second strike, confirming it as a repunched variety.
Die Chip: A raised blob of metal is visible on the eagle's leg and the laurel branch, a result of a small piece of the coin die breaking off during the minting process.
Struck Through Grease/Weak Strike: The rim and other design details, such as the tail of the '9' in the date, show signs of a weak strike, which is consistent with a heavily used die.
