This antique wooden ratchet-style noisemaker dates to the 1920s1930s and features a simple folk construction with nail joinery and a hand-crank mechanism. When spun, it produces a sharp, clacking sound typical of early 20th-century celebration toys and alert tools.
The wood shows visible aging, with wear consistent with its age and use. There are two splits in the frame where original nails caused the wood to crackone on a raised slat and one along the side (see photos for detail). Despite the damage, the piece still functions and remains an evocative example of early handmade noisemakers.
