Traveling Man Treasures is selling this Egyptian scarab pectoral amulet. Made of Faience, this amulet is in excellent condition and has been given the ancient look while it was being created. There is a noticeable hieroglyph on the back side as shown.
This piece was made by local Egyptians for affluent visitors who traveled to Egypt on educational Grand Tours of various archaeologically significant sites between 1780-1920s; a time also known as the first Egyptian Revival Period.
Scarabs were popular amulets and seals in ancient Egypt and were often made in the shape of a dung beetle. The scarab beetle was associated with the sun god Khepri and symbolized rebirth and regeneration.
