Peruvian Sterling Silver, Raimondi Stele, Chavin Ancient Peru. This is both a pendant or a brooch.
Intricately carved Sterling Silver, Gold and green stone Brooch featuring motifs based on the Raimondi Stele, a significant artifact from the Chavín culture of ancient Peru dating back to between 900 and 200 BCE.
Closing brooch clasp and bail on the top so it can be used as a pendant instead of a brooch. The bail is cleverly hinged so it can be folded back out of sight when worn as a brooch.
Marked 925 on the top of the bail. I believe this green stone is Chyrsocolla, meant to imitate Malachite or Jade.
Incredible detail, with motifs carved into the bail and on the back of the brooch, which you assume would not be seen. No flaws, unique piece of jewelry gifted to me by my grandmother, who traveled the world with my grandfather, and she always bought jewelry from every place she’s ever been. I’m guessing this was purchased in the late 1940’s.
