The false faces refer to the creation story of the Haudenosaunee. The earth had just been created when the Creator was challenged by a stranger, Ethiso:da (‘Old Broken Nose’).
To test who was really the creator of the Earth, they each agreed to attempt to move a mountain. The Creator was proved true by moving a mountain so close to Ethiso:da that he smashed his face into it. Ethiso:da false faces idols are considered useful in protection from disease and storms.
Excellent pre-owned, museum-quality condition; no cracks, chips, or other damage.
