The metal top and rim are stamped, EPNS meaning that all metal is electroplated nickle silver. This lovely piece weighs slightly over 2 pounds and has the applied white jasper classical motif of Sacrifice Figures by Elizabeth Templetown.
This antique English pottery piece from Josiah is a biscuit jar, designed to hold cookies, or biscuits. It could be brought out with tea; it could be placed in the guest room; it was a pottery piece basic to the English Victorian way of life. Raised white decoration depicting sacrificial characters from Greek mythology. One one side are Athena, Eros, and Artemis; on the other, two ladies bringing offerings to an altar. A wonderful piece.
