This exquisite antique Austrian cold-painted bronze dog figurine features a sleeping spaniel-type breed — likely a setter or retriever — portrayed in a peaceful, resting position with its head nestled between its front paws. The figure is exceptionally well-cast, with finely rendered fur texture and natural anatomical detail, exemplifying the Viennese bronze artistry popular during the late 19th to early 20th century.
Measuring approximately 2.5 inches long, this solid bronze piece has a satisfyingly heavy feel in hand and is stamped “664” on the underside — a model number typical of early Austrian foundry work. Though much of the original cold-painted finish has gracefully worn with time, this only enhances its aged character and authentic antique charm. Faint traces of the original hand-applied color may still be visible in recesses.
These miniature bronzes were produced in Vienna circa 1890–1930, often used as luxury desk accessories, cabinet curios, or fine souvenirs.
