This is a beautiful one-of-a-kind antique Japanese Nippon hand-painted gilt Moriage floral ruffle bowl.Origin and Markings:This type of porcelain was produced in Japan ("Nippon" (the English spelling of Japan at the time) between 1891 and 1921. After 1921, U.S. Customs required imported china to be marked "Japan".Moriage Technique:The bowl features the Moriage technique, which involves raised, beaded, or textured enamel decoration, often in gold gilt, creating a three-dimensional effect, essentially a slip clay technique).Design:This specific bowl has a ruffled edge and is adorned with a floral vine motif in green, pink, and white, with gold gilt accents. The bowl showcases a delicate hand-painted floral design in soft pastel colors, often with gold accents and raised moriage details (a slip-clay painting technique). The bowl is 7.5” wide and 1.5” tall at the highest ruffle.Condition:Pieces like this are considered antique and can be in incredible condition for their age. This bowl is in very good condition. But typically with antiques there are some imperfections. There are chips and minor gold loss at each ruffle, but with the naked eye it truly doesn’t take away from its charm. As pictured there are very tiny little blemishes here and there. The bottom shows normal where for an antique piece. But still, to the naked eye, this bowl is truly beautiful.
