The M-65 Parker was adopted as the successor to the M-51 Parker. It is often confused with the M-65 field jacket, but they are completely different. The M-51 Parker used a thick satin fabric for the outer layer, while the M-65 Parker used a lightweight and durable cotton and nylon oxford weave. This material also had the advantage of drying quickly when wet, making it ideal for use in wetlands.

In terms of details, the M-51 Parker had a hood that was integrated with the body, while the M-65 Parker was detachable, and this model eliminates the hood. The so-called fishtail design, which features a cut in the back hem like a tailcoat, is inherited from the M-51 Parker. This was designed to trap warm air by tying the cords from the front and back hems under the legs.
