Dunkleosteus was the master of the Devonian seas. Placoderms were among the first jawed fishes, but totally lacked teeth. Instead, these animals sliced prey apart with self-sharpening beak-like blades that were made up of a thickening of a portion of the jaw bone itself which wore against opposing blades of the head shield to produce an edge that effectively never dulled.
The item pictured is a cast resin replica of the left jaw from Dunkleosteus terelli.
