Larimar is a rare blue variety of the mineral pectolite, found only in the Dominican Republic. The name Larimar combines Larissa (the name of the discoverer's daughter) and mar, the Spanish word for sea, reflecting the stone's maritime colors. It is also called the Dolphin Stone or the Atlantis Stone, due to legends linking it to the lost city of Atlantis.
