This attractive cylinder vase is expertly wheel thrown and trimmed by master potter and author . Jon is a 3rd generation potter, working out of Southern California since 1989. This piece is carefully fired in a high temperature kiln with crystal forming glazes. Crystalline glazes are specialty glazes that show visible and distinct crystal growth in the matrix of the fired glaze. Crystalline glazes require a high level of expertise and sophistication in formulation as well as firing. The process of creating a crystalline glaze is more involved than working with a regular glaze as it has a tendency to run off the pot and the firing cycle is very dependent on accurate temperature measurements.
