availability: in Stock
$128.60  $122.17

Vintage rare antique small, rectangular box, possibly a trinket box or a pillbox, featuring a tree design on its lid. The box is copper, and the tree design is created using the ando repousse technique. The tree has a reddish-brown trunk and branches with white dots representing leaves or blossoms.
Ando Jubei of Nagoya was known for creating boxes like this in the Japanese Arts & Crafts style during the Meiji Period, around 1900. These boxes often feature intricate designs created using the repoussé and cloisonné techniques. Repoussé is a metalworking technique where the metal is shaped by hammering from the back to create a raised design, while chasing is used on the front to refine the details. Cloisonné involves creating decorative patterns with metal wires or strips, and filling the resulting spaces with enamel. The combination of these techniques results in detailed and textured designs.
The box could use a good polishing, but in otherwise nice condition.
