The story behind this flag...
Gifted by a WW2 army vet in 2006 at the Olympia airshow where I was marshalling aeroplanes. He was surprised to find a Brit there (a common reaction I’ve grown accustomed to). Told me he had it with him in his M1936 musette bag while fighting in the ETO. He refused any money for it, so I treated the fellow to lunch. He wrote his name, rank, serial number and unit on a napkin which I pocketed safely. I offered him drinks later after the airshow. He agreed, but I never spotted him again. Was bummed.
The napkin was forgotten about till after laundry. Pulled out a table-tennis-sized hardened pulp.
Double bummer.
Made from linen measuring approx 69x42”.
Stripes are approx 3”.
Has a hole near the top center (second photograph). Fly end corners damaged (third photograph).
Will be carefully packaged.
