Original mid-19th century sixth-plate tintype photograph of a formally dressed, bearded man, housed in its original embossed leather-covered case with ornate gold foil trim and decorative metal clasp. The image is sharp with good contrast for its age, and is framed in a pressed brass mat with a scalloped edge.
The case interior features red embossed velvet, worn but intact. Outer case shows typical wear, rubbing, and exposed wood along the spine, consistent with handling and age.
A classic example of Civil War era photography, ideal for collectors of early American portraits and 1800s photography.
Size: Approx. 3.5 x 3 (Sixth Plate) Condition: Photo very good, case shows exterior wear (see photos)
The case is in 2 pieces and will need repair. There is case wear as well as wear to the photo. Please see photos for a better visual description.
