14in 1989 NATIVE AMERICAN HOPI EAGLE AND VILLAGE HAND CARVED ***RARE*** ONE OF THE FEATHER IS BROKEN BUT REALLY HARD TO NOTICE
• What the eagle means: The Hopi Eagle (Kwahu) katsina honors eagle power/protection and appears in winter/spring ceremonies. In carvings you’ll usually see a hooked beak, feathered headdress/wings, and dance regalia. Late‑1980s pieces often became more naturalistic with detailed feathers and in‑the‑round poses, carved from cottonwood root.
• Why there’s a village: Many carvers include their home mesa/village as a backdrop or on the base—both as cultural context and as the artist’s signature style.
