Beautifully hand crafted with attention to detail! I've long admired the Japanese aesthetics of portraying nature either realistically or stylistically! The details in their depictions are subtly apparent. The sculpture of leaves is of the Japanese Aralia Paper Plant (Fatsia Japonica) that are grown both as a garden and houseplants. "Fatsia" is an approximation of the old Japanese word for 8 now pronounced "hachi" regarding the 8 lobes of the leaf. Varieties actually range from 7 to 9 lobes. The leaves are a blue-gray-green patina. They are tactile textured and have resisted corrosion in the years I've displayed in our humid tropical climate! The Grosbeak Finch seems to be of a different mixed metal than the leaves. I tried polishing the underside and it shows a coppery color but weighs like brass/bronze. The top color is patina of age. It is detachable and I would wrap separately to prevent damage to the legs, claws and stem rests.Displays wonderfully as either a garden sculpture or as intended as an "Okimono (置物 oki-mono) - Japanese term meaning "ornament for display; objet d'art; decorative object."MARK - see Pic 5bSPECS -PLANT - about 12"L x 8.5"W x 5"H (up to bird tail = 6.5"H)BIRD - 3.625"L x 1.25"W x 2.25"H not including stems attached to bottom of claws to insert into plant branchCONDITION - EXCELLENT!- commensurate with age, there's minor scratches, discoloration and patina.- nothing to speak of, no cracks or breaks upon inspection
