“Peace”–1896 by William Strutt-Depicting Isaiah 11:6-7 Sepia Lithograph.“And a child shall lead them.”This artwork is an antique in excellent condition complete with old wavy glass depicting its old age.A rare find! The Archbishop of Wales chooses Peace:‘“Too idealistic” and “naïve”: two reactions to Strutt’s painting. It’s a “favourite” in a very particular sense: the Christian faith is, for some, too idealistic or naïve, but for those who understand Strutt’s inspiration, the painting is a metaphor for the Kingdom of God, in which innocence, gentleness and generosity of spirit triumph over division, conflict and self.”About William Strutt:The following is provided by Wikipedia:“Strutt was born in Teignmouth, Devon, England, and came from a family of artists, his grandfather, Strutt, was a well-known author and artist, his father, William Thomas Strutt, was a good miniature painter. William Strutt enjoyed a student life in Paris, France, and England, studying figurative and history painting. In response to a near-breakdown and problems with his eyes, Strutt decided to visit Australia, arriving 5 July 1850 on the Culloden, where he then married. In Melbourne, Strutt found employment as an illustrator on the short-lived Illustrated Australian Magazine, published by Thomas Ham, as there was little demand for the figurative and history paintings for which he was trained.
