VINTAGE ETCHING / ‘Haydn House’ by JOSEF EIDENBERGER d.1991 / RARE MULTI PLATE

availability: in Stock
$149.00  $141.55

Josef Eidenberger was born in Austria in 1899 and began his career as a landscape painter but soon became enamored of copper engraving. His masterful engravings of famous places (mostly in Austria and Germany) brought him great acclaim and the title “Professor of the Arts”. Eidenberger is one of the few etchers skilled enough to use multiple copper plates (one for each color) rather that hand coloring a black & white etching. He passed away in 1991 at the age of 92. This etching is of composer Haydn’s house in Eisenstadt, Austria which is now a museum to the inventor of the string quartet and a contemporary of Mozart. The very detailed image itself is 8 x 10.5 inches and is impressed on a larger piece of watercolor paper. It has been triple matted to 15.25 x 18 inches and is in very good vintage condition. There is a light line of discoloration around the image caused by the bottom mat (see photo). Eidenberger signed the etching in pencil in the lower right corner under the printed title, ‘Eisenstadt Haydn-Museum Hof’.
