It turned out, though, that they didn't have legal permission to release anything under their name, so it was quickly withdrawn to avoid any legal problems. Four years later, in 1987, a new version of Abbey Road was released worldwide, and was quickly panned by critics and Beatles fans alike. Why? Unlike the original release, it didn't come from a flat transfer of the master tapes.
