Extremely rare GORT Bone China Figurine of a Spotting Positioned English Setter from the 1940’s. This GORT Company was a flash-in-the pan exquisite quality American Porcelain outfit that started around 1944 and ended about 1954. Like a rock group, they were popular and great, but ran into financial and personality problems, disbanding within 10 years of starting. Dogs, Cats, Horses and Rabbits are the most collectible GORT figurines, though they made great oriental themed items that probably will rise to the animal collectible pricing level. This gentle dog is in a standing still position, what it does when it spots. It can hold this position for a long time. Dimensions: nose to tail 6”, front foot to head 4 3/4”, back foot to tail 3 3/8”. The black patches and speckling, called pelton, are wonderfully painted here. Underside stamped “BONE CHINA GORT 02-D”, then signed “CL” by the painter. No chips, crazing, cracks or repairs on this great glossy finish. Sweet tempered dog work of art.
