This is an unusual custom-made hat from the 1940s'. The hat consists of a round wire ring covered in a draped band of taupe velour. The top of the hat is made of the same velour bands in a lattice pattern similar to a pie. There is a large maroon fabric "poinsettia" at one side. There is some glitter in the leaves, plus in the stamens. There are rhinestones glued where the bands meet, There is an elastic band attached too the inside to help keep the hat in place. The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular. There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. Please keep in mind that you are buying a vintage hat, not new nor perfect! This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, furs, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
