
This small black velvet flat top cap is typical of the1950s. It has a stiff cap covered in black velvet on top, and covered in black fabric inside. The top features a velvet covered wire loop from which a black ostrich feather plus long black Biot feathers spray out.Post war 1940’s and 1950’s saw many women choosing not to wear hats on a regular basis. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. Generally speaking hats remained small and close to the head. They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble. There are two velvet covered wire stays to hold the hat in place, again, typical of the era.
