This elegant velvet toque from the 1950s is very typical of the era. The small hat is a round cap trimmed with a black feather and crin (horsehair) spray. To keep the hay in place there is a velvet covered wire "stays" (see photo). Stays would be hidden under hairdos.Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves.There is no label, indicating it is a custom-made piece.This hat is in wonderful vintage condition and has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years.
