This is a beautiful example of the millinery fashions of the 1950s'. This small cap is made of a hard but flexible material which is covered in an off-white fabric. There is a very short upturned brim, and a creatively draped piece of fabric at the front. There are long, curled feather quills of the same off-white color. The tip of the quills have some tiny rhinestones glued to it, as pictured. There is a long, narrow strip of veiling attached to the front center, ending in two small strips of the same fabric as the hat. At the back there is a hatpin with a pearl head.Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. Post war 1940βs and 1950βs saw many women choosing not to wear hats on a regular basis. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. Generally speaking hats remained small and close to the head. They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble. There is no designer label, but there is a size 22 label, though it can fit any size head. This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
