This very rare antique Japanese Lithograph is by G. A. Audsley during the early 19th century. Lithography is a printing process that involves using a stone or metal block on which an image has been drawn with a thick lacquer substance that attracts ink. This lithograph was printed from the original Japanese book titled, " The Ornamental Arts of Japan" 1st Edition publishing in 1882 by G. A. Audsley, Sampson Low & Co Publisher. (See last 3 images.) The book & last 3 images are not for sale. The plate is titled at the top Left of the lithograph "SECTION IV" and at the top right "Plate X11". The bottom left of the plate is titled "G. A. Audsley dir". The middle bottom is titled "Samson Low & Co Publ". The bottom right is titled "Heliog and Imp. Lemercier &Cie". This lithograph was produced using a flat metal surface on which a lacquered gold color ink was drawn with relief of a Japanese temple surrounded by an amazing landscape depicting a scene of wealth and prosperity. This amazing old Japanese art is of a tract of land by the Japanese seashore with a magnificent temple and temple grounds. In the surrounding landscape of the temple grounds are rocks, water with waves, trees, huts, shrubbery, and a bridge leading to the temple. In the distance are mountains. The sky is full of clouds. Height: 15 in or 38.1 cm; Width: 17.75 in or 45.09 cm. Either this early 19th century plate was preserved without a frame, or the original frame was replaced by Vision Graphics is 2005 or later.
