Henri Matisse ICARUS SILKSCREEN / Rare Limited Edition Art Institute Of Chicago!

availability: in Stock
$325.00  $308.75

Henri Matisse (1869-1954) is widely considered the father of Fauvism, a revolutionary art movement that experimented with color, brushstrokes, and unsophisticated works. In the last years of his life, Matisse was frequently confined to his bed and turned to expressing himself through paper cutouts (collage). In 1947 he created 20 collages for a limited edition portfolio called “Jazz”. This excellent silkscreen reproduction is of Plate VIII and is called ‘Icarus’. It was created by Editions Limited for the Art Institute Of Chicago’s gift shop. The quality of the silkscreen is excellent and is probably the closest you can get to having one of Matisse’s 1947 portfolio pages. The visible image size is 7.25 x 10.75 inches and has been double matted to 11x14 inches. There is some slight wear to several of the mat’s corners (see photos), otherwise the artwork is in excellent condition.
