This is an incredibly rare scarf donated by Princess Grace Ranier of Monaco to The East Lyme Rowing Club in CT. I was the highest bidder which is how I acquired it. As identified by the accompanying letter, La Princesse de Monaco designed the scarf. In the book "My Book of Flowers" penned by Grace Kelly, she wrote "I drew this poster for the first flower show we had in Monte Carlo in 1966." The calligraphy spells out "Monte Carlo Flora". The design was adopted for this very scarf to be sold for a very short time for The Garden Club of Monte Carlo. The scarf was created in Italy of Reine Silk for The House of Monaco. The scarves were quite limited since the small production was halted less than two years after introduction due to The Princess' untimely demise. When Princess Grace was driving home from Mount Agel with her daughter Stephanie', she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage while driving her 1972 Rover P6-3500. The short blackout caused her to lose control of the car and plummeted 120 feet down unforgiving terrain. Her daughter suffered minor injuries but the beautiful Princess only survived a single day due to internal injuries. Both Monaco and America lamented the loss since she was an American born in Philadelphia, PA. She quickly rose to stardom at the fresh age of 22 alongside Gary Cooper in High Noon. Her second movie Country Girl garnered her an Oscar. She starred in three Hitchcock films and retired at 26 to marry Prince Ranier III of Monaco. One tiny spot on edge.
