This striking vintage lithograph titled Sports d’Hiver (Winter Sports) was created by the renowned French artist Bernard Villemot (1911-1989). The poster depicts half a dozen skiers on a descent from an Alpine mountain. However, rather than the sharp jagged mountain peaks often depicted in skiing posters, Villemot has illustrated the mountain range in large, elegant sweeping strokes. The skiers are portrayed carving smooth, graceful arcs through fresh snow. The poster perfectly captures the beauty and thrill of this popular Alpine sport with a design that manages to both inspire and exhilarate.
Condition: VERY GOOD. The lithograph is mounted to a linen backing material and shows evidence of age with some discoloration of the paper. A slight crease is visible at the lower right corner. Paper edges are irregular and backing material is slightly frayed at edges.
