The work is particularly designed for schools, and therefore especial efforts have been made to render it interesting and instructive; to keep the general thread of the narrative clearly in view, while a variety of incidents are thrown in, illustrative of events, and reflecting light upon the spirit of the age. This history of France occupies so large a space in the general history of Europe, and is so interwoven with that of surrounding nations, that it becomes, of necessity, to a considerable extent, a history of Europe. It is believed, that, as an introduction to the study of European History, this work may prove useful.
