Born and raised in Honolulu, Earl Shimokawa works out of his studio at his home in Pearl City. Earl Shimokawa, a self-taught and instinctive artist, creates his Hawaiian scenes through a mild screen of memory and idealist. His paintings of seascapes & mountain ranges and fishermen and birds in flight are characterized by a generous use of color and gentleness of expression. His skies are aglow with soft pastels and his oceans shimmer with white light, high on the color scale.
