Vintage watch clock made by Detex Newman.With die-cast aluminium housing, heat-treated crystal, and a riveted and reinforced leather harness carrying case and an adjustable shoulder strap. There is a wind up key and required winding only once per week. It would provide a 24-hour record directly embossed on a paper time dial by means of raised numerals on the recording keys.Made in the USA, the Detex Newman Watch clock was first introduced in 1927. The watch clock, basically an oversized watch about the size of canteen, was easily carried around in its leather case.It has a key hole on the top.As the employee made their rounds, they would insert keys from the key stations into the clock which would print or punch out on a strip of paper inside the clock the time and the station identification mark.The clocks would be checked after each shift as proof that the employee had actually made the rounds.Marvelous vintage decor for library or desktop. We do not have the key and so cannot confirm if this watchman’s clock works. We displayed it on our book shelf as a book end. Some specks of verdigris around the clasps. Leather is slightly distressed. Perfectly aged! Approximately 2&1/4 x 5&1/2”. Love the face, the leather, the brass rivets. Nice curio piece. Detex Newman watchman clock.
