Antique French 19th Century Cloth Cosmetic Evening / Opera purse with petite point needlepoint embroidery tapestry lipstick makeup purse. museum quality.Beautiful vintage navy petit-point needlepoint handbag on linen canvas with short strap handle. Made in France in the late 19th early 20th century. The interior is interesting-once you open the front flap with snap button closure, you find an interior coin purse. Then, by lifting the flap up from the bottom, there is another major compartment to store makeup/perfume in an off-white satin and has some mild staining. There is a good deal of age throughout the purse (please see photos). Many tears and stray thread. This piece needs to be treated with utmost care. The linen and needlepoint show the canvas underneath. Measures 6.5" wide x 4.5" tall. The strap is about 6" long. The base is about 1.25" in width. Front button closure is in working condition but inner flap closure is missing. Most pieces are of a particular age and are genuine antiques with expected signs of wear and tear. Please bear in mind that like us, these pieces have years of "experience" that reflect their age but undeniably add to their unique character.
