This is a gorgeous antique Japanese bowl from the Meiji era, hand-painted depicting an erotic scene of a man and a woman. The man is clasping the woman in a close embrace. The man's hair is in a chonmage topknot, probably indicating his status as a samurai. The woman's hair is in a tōrōbin or 'lantern locks' style.
The bowl is set on a high base, and signed in blue on the bottom with 江上製, 'made by Egami,' which likely refers to Kumanosuke Egami (1837-1916) or possibly his son Kumaichi who founded the Egami kiln in Arita in 1876.
Size: Approximately 6 3/4 across the bowl; 1.5 tall.
Condition: The rim of the bowl appears to have been damaged and professionally repaired at some point. I can't tell the extent of the damage but I don't think it's very large.
Keywords: pillow painting, spring book, hentai, Bijin-ga, 江上, 春画, 浮世絵, 枕絵, 骨董, ヘンタイ, 春画皿, 明治時代
