This small 1940s' hat consists of a solid structure covered in black fabric. The small crown is flat at the top, and is surrounded by a short brim which is indented at the front, and tapers towards the back. The shape of the brim is like a heart. There is a narrow band of dotted veil surrounding the crown and ending in two streamers at the back. At the front there is a long, artfully painted feather extending towards one size,and is trimmed at the front with a small gold, rhinestone and imitation pearl jewel. The inside of the hat is alsocovered in fabric.The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war and on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling and artificial flowers were popular. There is no label, indicating it was a custom-made creation.This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years.
